Course Description
This course prepares participants to safely perform gas testing in hazardous and confined work environments. It focuses on atmospheric hazards, gas detection principles, equipment operation, interpretation of readings, and safe decision-making. The training ensures participants are competent to test, monitor, and report atmospheric conditions in support of safe work activities and permit-to-work systems.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of an Authorised Gas Tester.
- Identify atmospheric hazards including oxygen deficiency/enrichment, flammable gases, and toxic vapors.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain portable gas detection equipment.
- Interpret gas test results and determine safe or unsafe conditions.
- Apply gas testing requirements within Permit to Work and Confined Space systems.
- Document and communicate gas test results accurately.
Prerequisite
- None required.
- Recommended: basic safety knowledge and familiarity with confined space or permit-to-work systems.
Course Attire
- Classroom attire for theory sessions.
- Appropriate PPE if practical gas testing exercises are conducted (e.g., gloves, safety boots, helmet).

Certification
Participants who successfully complete the course and assessment receive an Apexis Authorised Gas Tester Certificate.
Recommended Recertification: Every 12 months or as required by workplace procedures or regulatory standards.
