Course Description

The Apexis Basic Firefighting Course provides essential knowledge and hands-on skills for individuals entering the fire and emergency services or seeking foundational competency in firefighting operations. Delivered through dynamic classroom instruction and practical field exercises, this course covers fire behavior, fire suppression fundamentals, hose handling, search and rescue basics, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and essential safety practices. Designed with real-world scenarios, learners will build confidence and capability to respond effectively to basic fire emergencies while reinforcing teamwork and situational awareness. Training content aligns with internationally recognized firefighting principles and best practices to ensure readiness for further professional development.


Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand fire science fundamentals, including fire tetrahedron, heat transfer, fire behavior stages, and combustion dynamics.
  • Demonstrate safe use and care of firefighting tools and equipment, including nozzles, hose lines, and PPE.
  • Execute basic fire suppression techniques using handlines, extinguishers, and coordinated team tactics.
  • Apply search and rescue procedures under controlled conditions while maintaining situational awareness.
  • Follow incident safety protocols, including risk assessment, communication, and accountability on the fireground.
  • Operate as part of a fire response team with emphasis on discipline, coordination, and effective command support.

Prerequisite

There are no formal prerequisites to enroll. Ideal candidates should be in good physical health and prepared for moderate physical activity. Prior emergency response experience is beneficial but not required.


Course Attire

All participants must wear appropriate training attire to ensure safety and maximize learning:

  • Approved PPE, including helmet, gloves, turnout coat and trousers, boots, and eye protection (provided or specified prior to class)
  • Comfortable undergarments and socks suitable for physical activity
  • Long-sleeve shirt and long pants for classroom and field sessions
  • Optional: Personal gear bag for storage of equipment and supplies

Participants will receive detailed equipment and safety requirements upon registration to ensure compliance with field exercises and simulations.
