Course Description

This course provides participants with comprehensive knowledge of the Permit to Work (PTW) system used to control high-risk activities. It focuses on hazard identification, risk assessment, authorization processes, and compliance with workplace safety procedures. The training ensures permits are correctly issued, received, monitored, and closed to prevent accidents and ensure safe operations.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and importance of the Permit to Work system.
  • Identify activities requiring a permit (hot work, confined space, electrical, working at heights).
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of permit issuers, receivers, and authorizing personnel.
  • Complete, implement, monitor, and close permits correctly.
  • Recognize common permit failures and apply controls to prevent incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and legal safety requirements.

Prerequisite

  • None required.
  • Recommended: basic workplace safety knowledge and familiarity with company procedures.

Course Attire

  • Classroom attire for theory sessions.
  • PPE may be required if practical or site-based permit exercises are conducted.

Certification

Participants who successfully complete the course and assessment receive an Apexis Certified Permit to Work Certificate.
Recommended Recertification: Every 2 years or following significant changes to PTW procedures or legislation.
