Course Description
This course provides participants with foundational knowledge to recognize and respond safely to hazardous materials (HazMat) incidents. It focuses on hazard identification, personal safety, initial response actions, and safe practices to protect personnel, the public, and the environment without attempting to control the release.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify hazardous materials and understand their potential risks.
- Recognize warning signs, labels, placards, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Apply safe initial response procedures in the event of a HazMat incident.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of Awareness-level personnel.
- Avoid exposure and protect themselves and others during hazardous materials incidents.
- Communicate hazards and notify appropriate authorities effectively.
Prerequisite
- None required.
- Recommended: basic workplace safety awareness.
Course Attire
- Classroom or business-casual attire.
- PPE not required unless practical site exercises are conducted.

Certification
Participants who complete the course and assessment receive an Apexis Hazardous Materials Awareness Certificate.
